Project: Home Insurance
ProjectClaude's Projects feature lets you create a dedicated workspace where you can upload documents that Claude will reference across every conversation inside that project. This is perfect for something like your home insurance policy — upload it once, then ask Claude anything about your cover at any time, without re-uploading the document each session.
How Projects Work
Think of a Project as a private folder for Claude. Any files you add — insurance policies, contracts, manuals, spreadsheets — stay attached to that project permanently. Every new chat you open inside the project has full access to those documents from the moment you start typing.
Setting Up Your Home Insurance Project
On claude.ai, click Projects in the left sidebar to open the Projects page. Click New Project — the button on the right of the screen — and name it something clear, e.g. Home Insurance.
Inside your new project, you'll see three blocks stacked on the right of the screen:
Memory — where Claude builds up facts about you and this project as you chat. You don't fill this in directly; Claude maintains it automatically across every conversation in the project.
Instructions — the project's standing instructions. Type a short brief that Claude should follow in every chat, e.g. "You are a home insurance policy advisor. Always reference the specific clause or section number when answering questions about cover."
Files — where your documents live. Click Upload files and add your home insurance policy PDF or Word document from your device. Claude reads it automatically in every new chat in this project.
Click New Chat from within the project — not from the main sidebar. This ensures Claude has access to your uploaded policy and the project instructions.
Paste one of the prompts below. Claude will read your policy and give you a specific, accurate answer based on your actual cover — not a generic response.
Prompt 1 — Roof Leak from Blocked Gutters
Use this prompt to ask Claude whether a roof leak caused by clogged gutters would be covered under your home insurance policy, and what the claims process looks like.
Prompt
You are an insurance policy advisor helping a homeowner understand their cover. I have uploaded my home insurance policy document to this project. Please use it as the basis for your answer. My situation: During winter, leaves built up in my gutters and I did not clear them before the summer rains arrived. The blocked gutters caused water to overflow and back up under my roof, resulting in a leak and water damage to my ceiling and walls. Please advise me on the following: 1. Is this type of damage likely to be covered under my policy? Reference the specific sections or clauses that apply. 2. Would the insurance company consider this a maintenance issue or an insurable event? Explain the distinction. 3. What steps should I take to log a claim, and what documentation will I need to support it? 4. Are there any exclusions or conditions in my policy that I should be aware of before proceeding? Please be specific to my policy where possible, and flag any areas where the answer is unclear or where I should follow up directly with my insurer.
Prompt 2 — Rental Car After a Minor Accident
Use this prompt to find out whether your policy includes a rental car benefit after a minor collision, and what the process is to access it.
Prompt
You are an insurance policy advisor helping a policyholder understand their motor vehicle cover. I have uploaded my home and vehicle insurance policy document to this project. Please use it as the basis for your answer. My situation: I was involved in a minor rear-end collision — my rear bumper was damaged by another vehicle. My car will need to go in for repairs and I need to know whether I am entitled to a rental vehicle while mine is being fixed. Please advise me on the following: 1. Does my policy include a rental car or car hire benefit? If so, what are the terms — daily limit, maximum number of days, and any conditions that apply? 2. Does it matter whether I am claiming from my own insurer or from the third party's insurer? How does this affect the rental benefit? 3. What is the process to arrange the rental — do I contact my insurer first, or can I book independently and claim back? 4. Are there any exclusions I should be aware of — for example, does the benefit only apply if the car is not driveable? Please reference the relevant sections of my policy and highlight anything I should confirm directly with my insurer before proceeding.
